GOLF JOURNAL 3SEMBAWANG

Well, well, this time it was back to basics at our home course, Sembawang.  With all the previous various exposure and time spent on other courses, its back where we all belong.  Bintan Ria, as anticipated by those who were not there the last round, will have to wait a little longer, as we all know the trip does consume time in travelling between our coast.  Anyway, other than travel time, it was an event to commemorate Mike Gee. Mike as we all know, has left our lovely Greens of Changi and is currently holding his RSM tour in 2 SIR.  His commanding officer, being an avid golfer has decided to hire Mike’s talent as cadre in his next Senior PGA.  Jokes aside, we wish Mike the very best in this current tour and we hope he keeps our flag flying at the end of the 18th hole.  We also like to thank him for his farewell gesture in presenting a lovely dinner at the end of the hard day’s play.

My apologies for the delay in Journal 2, as we received some problems in the overall size of the journal.  I did lose some details due the problematic Zip Drive; please never trust all your important work on them.  They (Disk) have known to break down during the time of need.  As for the journal, I like to write them out immediately to keep the memories and fresh shits hot from the oven.

Before we get to the fairways, the latest; Who’s Using What? And the latest Techno Gig.  Check out the latest ‘Maraging Steel’ Irons (180% stronger than steel) with Mwo Chan KK, purchased from the local Pro store ‘Big Win’ at a super bargain price.  I had the chance to try them out on the range and found them to be a very forgiving set of irons; the shaft was well match with a touch of added distance from the whip and kickback effect of the graphite shaft (Japanese made).  Another set of graphite irons, check the latest ‘Taylor Made’ from Pach Ang, specially designed with different material for different clubs.  Tungsten insert for the long irons (distance), nickel steel (feel) for the wedges.  A very high tech and best of both world purchases.

Lets talk a little about Balls, how much is too much? How much do we expect to pay for a decent ball?  As we improve on our skills and start playing more on tight fairways, paying more for that extra Feel and Distance, I think is all worth it!  Lately, Nike, Callaway and Taylor Made have jumped into the bandwagon of latest balls.  As the Pro’s statistics reflex, most wins comes from Titlelist; I have tried the New HP Tour and the New HP Eclipse.  Bought for US$29.00 in Arizona and sold here for $65.00.  I would say a little on the expensive side, forget the Eclipse and go for the New HP Tour.  The exceptional feel is superb but one must get use to putting a soft ball.  The other sought after ball on tour is the Maxfli Revolution; excellent feel, good distance, really nice on approach irons.  Sold at the price of $85.00 per box, expensive and the price for the extra touch and feel.  Are you a Feel Player? Always waggling the club to get that feel before take away?  Next would be the Winston Staff Smart Core; 3 types; Straight Distance, Professional Distance and Ladies.  Sold for $42.00 and $49.00 at local pro stores.  Not bad for the price which brings soft feel and good distance, I think is really quite reasonable price to pay.  Anyway, it’s all very individual to chose.

Okay, lets get to the gist of things!  Comprising of 4 flights; the turnout was not bad considering some faces that we missed for the last outings.  Setting the pace for the Senior PGA Tour is the twosome of Mwo Chan KK and Frankie Yee (Laura and Hardy).  It was god that decided not to pair them for the day.  On the visitor’s list we have Adrian and Galistan Sydney, some still cannot pronounce his name right.  Must be all the Ah Bengs and Sengs! Newly included for this Tour tee-offs are Teck Wah (Monster), Sam (Toman) and Boo Ghee (The man who thinks Golf is A to Z).

Admittedly, I was late to meet up for the initial gathering and briefing.  Having lunch in Sembawang within 10 minutes is no joke and by the way, how often have we seen with our own eyes of ourselves or friends gobble down the food without even chewing.  Is Golf Addictive, so they say? If everyone plays 72 on every outing, then there is very little challenge in the game.  If golf were simple, then we would all carry 1 ball each, please ask Song Teck.

Our friend was all over the course seeking ball donations for Timorians until he lost memory of ball brand he was playing. Yes, Love the Game To Death and Hate The Way We sometimes Play! Gents, the Love, Hate Thing is called Addiction Dude! We all make mistakes in this game; it is how we manage our screw-ups and not repeating them on the next. Golf they say it’s a mind game; have we use it all??

Well, enough of that; its back to the course.  Being the last to be there; all the ‘Tiger Woods’ and ‘Shark Norman’ were gone, leaving yours sincerely, David Duval and Vijay Singh alone at the clubhouse.  One can wonder the rush for the ‘Hole In One’ price.  Finally, we heard them on the course or sorry, felt them on the course as the bullets flew by our heads.  I heard there were many records that fell that day, as projectiles reached the men’s ‘changing rooms’, picking up the wrong balls, etc.  Song Teck still chopping and digging.  Even the trees were not spared, they were informed of ‘The Tour People’, and they were shit scared, they have heard of them before! They are the Party People! The sun is not forgiving that day but at least the buggies were on the fairways.  The game ended rather late as the sun set, with a quick shower and change landed all golfers at the restaurant.  It was time for sharing the pot of shit that happened earlier on the greens, it was a Golfer’s get together!  It was nice to see Allan Wong alive and kicking, also attending the dinner was guest from Mike’s platoon.

It all ended with the presentation of the Day’s winners and revision of the Tour’s Handicaps.  Taking 5th Spot was Ho Yin Choy,4th went to Sam, 3rd also our Raffles winner, Pach Ang.  2nd Hamm! Yours Sincerely and the Champ…. Goes to Frankie Yee!  For a low handicapper taking the Stableford is never easy; Congratulations for an outstanding performance, and everyone for the Day’s attendance on a fabulous round of Golf………..
